The Landing Page is your personal home page in our domain "Old Abe Chapter.Org" Parts of this site are "Template Materials" that deal with the development of the site. They will be left in place until we have the site completely built and the people administering that various pages are familiar with the operations. Association Correspondence
Mr. Thomas K. Sewell, President of the 101st Airborne Division Association advised me by letter dated Aug 3, 2010:
The letter goes on to explain that this practice is not permitted by Association Articles and request that immediate steps be taken to correct the situation. I have responded to President Sewell with a letter dated Aug 29, 2010 advising, in summary: that Chapter members have many affiliations and other interests and that when they act in support of these other interests, and do not provide any linkages to the Chapter, they are acting as private citizens and not chapter members. This letter further states that I do not believe that any chapter member has represented the chapter in these political activates. It is important that we follow these rules. The IRS is very strict with enforcement of the provision for tax exempt organization. It is important for President Sewell to act and document a reported violation and it is our responsibiity to do the same. Please take time to read both President Sewell's letter and the response that details the extent that I go through to ensure that I am complaint with IRS regulations. Letters are found in the Chapter Operations Record in the folder titled: Political Activities - Follow this Link |
Robert Herriot
Robert Herriot joins the Chapter A native of Friendship Wisconsin and member of the 101st Airborne Division and the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne, Robert jumped in to Normandy on D-day. He also has a very interesting story about the time with the 327 GIR - when he was one of 13 glider riders on a glider that was part of the Eindhoven assault. On the landing decent, the pilot and copilot were killed by AA fire when they were about 100 feet above the ground - Herriot, sitting just behind the pilot, pushed him out of the seat, jumped in and took the controls. Although he had no pilot training, he managed to "drive" the glider through a barbed wire fence and end up in a ditch. All 13 aboard were uninjured. Romlein interviewed him at this home in Friendship and is putting the story on paper for an article in the Screaming Eagle Magazine. Robert will be telling his story as the lead off speaker at the Friday "Forum from the Floor" during the 2nd WWII Glider Symposium in Madion 9-11 Sep 2010.
